DavidJ Sections: Makeups/Lab Final Practice/Early Lab Finals: Date & Time

We drop the lowest lab mark out of 10 lab marks and keep the highest 5 quiz grades out of however many quizzes there are.

So doing a 10th lab or more than 5 quizzes as makeups will usually only cause a minor change to your course average and usually no change at all to your letter grade. However, doing such makeups could be pedagogically useful if you approach them in the right spirit---"I'm here to learn."

Doing makeups for undropped items is probably very important to your letter grade.

Yours truly tries to accommodate everyone who wants a makeup, but those for whom it is grade-important take precedence

  1. Makeup Schedule

  2. Makeups are usually done the week before the Lab Final.

However, makeups at other times, including during the day, are possible particularily for labs NOT requiring observations and for quizzes.

The instructor and student should agree on a schedule for their makeups.

Note to do a makeup for a quiz you must NOT have seen a copy of that quiz.

Makeups without dates below are for the regular makeups period for the semester.

    Current Makeup Schedule:

    1. Alex Garza: Lab 10, quiz for Lab 11.
    2. Allan Quan: Lab 12: Cosmos, Lab 6: Galilean Moons of Jupiter. Allen should start early at 6:00 pm and prepare for a long night---or he could do Lab 6 on the Apr20 as well as the Lab Final.
    3. Arien Rollin: Lab 2, quiz for Lab 2, On Apr20: Lab 5 without observations, with NO quiz for Lab 5, and, of course, the Lab Final.
    4. Benton Minedew: Lab 11, quiz for Lab 11.
    5. Chase Reviea Lab 11, quiz for Lab 11. Chase and Benton can work together.
    6. Coren Thomas: Lab 11, quiz for Lab 11.
    7. Erin Rieke: Quiz for Lab 9: Double Stars
    8. Je Huer: Lab 1, quiz for Lab 1, Lab 11, quiz for Lab 11. Je should work with Coren on Lab 11 when she is here and do Lab 1 before and after doing Lab 11. Je should come early at 6:00 pm in order to get started. It will be a longish night.
    9. Michael Lasso: Lab 11, quiz for Lab 11. Michael can work with Je and Coren. On Apr20: Lab 5 without observations, with NO quiz for Lab 5, and, of course, the Lab Final. Michael can work with Arien on Lab 5.

The instructor should put out all the equipment needed for the labs to be made up and have quizzes ready for the quizzed to be made up.

  3. Lab Final Practice

  4. The
Lab Final is fully detailed at Lab Final.

Typically, about half an hour suffices for practice for the Lab Final.

You can skip practice altogether if you think that you can do the Lab Final without.

Or your could just come on the night of the Lab Final and practice beforehand.

If you have no makeups to do and don't want to practice on the makeup night, you don't need to come on the makeup night.

The instructor should put planispheres and a C8 telescope for practice.

  5. Early Lab Finals

  6. Early
Lab Finals can be done on the makeup night.

This is catch-as-catch-can since the instructor is helping with the makeups.

But it is usually possible to accommodate a few people.
