Exam 1 Information: Spring / Summer / Fall

The symbol ??? means there is still some uncertainty. The uncertainties will be eliminated as the exam time approaches or at otherwise appropriate times. The hidden comment "update" indicates something that may need updating for the current semester.

  1. Exam 1 is tentatively scheduled as below. As the time approaches, we will firm up the date.

  2. Exam 1 will cover IALs 0,1,2,3,4,5. IAL 5 is NOT lectured on in class and is just a Reading-Homework-Self-Testings (RHSTs). It is less heavily weighted on Exam 1.
  3. The exam is entirely multiple-choice with 72 questions in 75 minutes (50 questions in 50 minutes for summer semester exams). It is CLOSED book/notes. About 50--70 % of the questions are drawn from the homeworks---the rest are NOT---but they are based on the lectures and are mostly similar to the homework questions.
  4. People often seem to undershoot on the first exam---they don't study sufficiently seriously it seems---study, study.
  5. Exam 1 solutions for section 1. Yours truly no longer posts exam solutions since makeups go on endlessly.
  6. Exam 1 solutions for section 2. Yours truly no longer posts solutions exam since makeups go on endlessly.
