The solar photosphere is about 500 km thick and the chromosphere is about 10,000 km thick.
They are both geometrically thin compared to the solar radius R_☉ = 6.957*10**5 km = 109 R_eq_⊕ ≅ 700,000 km (which is the radius of the solar photosphere). Together they constitute what is usually considered the solar atmosphere though the corona included too.
