Caption: The parallax θ between different objects depends on distance "a" to them and the perpendicular baseline "b" for the motion causing the parallax. Note
θ ∝ b/afor small b/a (i.e., b/a << 1), and thus b ↑ θ ↑ and a ↑ θ ↓ . In the case of the image, the parallax between distant mountain peaks is tiny for a baseline of a few steps and the Alien probably detects none at all. He'd have to move a long way to detect parallax.
