Caption: The Big Dipper---which, of course, is traditionall constellation---is NOT one of the official IAU-defined 88 constellations.
Officially, it's just an asterism and part of the official constellation Ursa Major.
In this diagram, I've given the Bayer designation Greek letters for the stars and their traditional star names.
By the by, Eta Ursae Majoris has traditional star names Alkaid AND Benetnasch---I've used the latter out of sheer ignorance.
