Caption: John A. Wheeler (1911--2008), Copenhagen, Denmark, 1963.
Wheeler popularized the word black hole when he used in a lecture in 1967 (see Wikipedia: Black hole: Golden age).
Wheeler insisted the word black hole was suggested to him by someone he couldn't remember???. Yeah, sure.
Yours truly thinks the historical dark star would have been the better name for the objects.
By the by, Wheeler was formerly one of the last surviving scientists to work with Einstein and is also a coauthor of Gravitation (1973), a famous textbook on general relativity.
The image is a detail from a photo annotated by Friedrich Hund (1896--1997), the last of the early developers of quantum mechanics (see Wikimedia Commons: File:Bohr,Niels Commemoration Meeting 1963 Copenhagen.jpg).
