Caption: A Medieval illustration in a historiated initial P with a woman---Lady Geometry---using a divider caliper (which could also be used as a drafting compass) probably to measure distances on the illustrated diagram.

    Features:

    1. In her left hand, Lady Geometry holds a set square, which is a tool for drawing or testing right angles.

    2. Lady Geometry is watched by a group of fearful students---well they seem to be wearing student gowns---or probably habits---students, monks, much the same thing in those days. Medieval scholars anyway.

    3. In the Middle Ages, it was unusual to show women teachers, in particular when the students appear to be monks.

The woman may be the personification of geometry---Lady Geometry as yours truly calls her.

    4. The historiated initial P is at the beginning Euclid's Elements in the translation from Arabic attributed to Adelard of Bath (c.1080--c.1152)---who is NOT to be confused with Abelard (1079--1142).
