Statue of Confucius

Caption: Statue of Confucius (551--479 BCE) on Chongming Island, Shanghai, China.

The most famous Chinese philosopher whose sayings are collected in Analects. See The Analects of Confucius, translator by A. Charles Muller, 1990, 2016 for Chinese and English versions with commentary.

My favorite quote from a Chinese philosopher---which is NOT from Confucius, but often thought to be---is

      64
... the journey of a thousand li commenced with a single step.

---Tao Te Ching, traditional author Laozi (6th--4th centuries BCE), quote from the translation Tao Te Ching by Lao-tzu, 1891, chapter 64 by James Legge (1815--1897).

Yours truly usually sinks in the dust at mile 449---which is a prime number---and year 449 CE is the traditional date for when Vortigen (5th century CE) formed an alliance with Hengist & Horsa (5th century CE) and the beginning of the Anglo-Saxon conquest of Britain.
