High Cal:

1. Birth of the Tycho Brahe's 1572 supernova remnant | 0:45: On SN 1572 (AKA Tycho) (a SN Ia) and the SN 1572 supernova remnant. The animation is good for illustrating how a supernova remnant expands in interstellar medium (ISM). On the time scale of tens of thousands of years, supernova remnants break up and merge with the ISM enriching it with metals including radioactive isotopes (see Wikipedia: Supernova remnants: Stages). The video is from the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy---but the star motions still look phony. And where is the binary companion star (see Wikipedia: SN 1572: The companion star) to the exploding white dwarf (the assumed SN Ia progenitor). Good and short enough for the classroom.
2. What's Up For Nov. 2009? Crab Nebula | 3:41: On the Crab nebula, Crab pulsar, and their progenitor SN 1054, a Type II supernova. Good, but too long for classroom.

Low Cal:

1. How Massive Stars Die | 0:40: A silent animation on core collapse supernovae. Seems a bit clonky. NOT good enough for the classroom.
