Caption: Isaac Newton (1643--1727), 1689.
Shortly after publishing the Principia (1687).
At the zenith of his power. But the hair is fake.
Actually, Newton was born Christmas Day Dec25, 1642 on the Julian calendar still in use in England in his time. See Wikipedia: Old Style and New Style dates for the complications of the non-uniform times of switching between the Julian calendar and the Gregorian calendar by various countries.
So in a sense, Newton was born in the calendar year of Galileo's (1564--1642) death. Stretching a point, a symbolic passing of the torch.
