Note, in an intro astronomy course, studying mathematical developments (beyond trivial ones) is for students who wish to go beyond course requirements. Beyond trivial ones (e.g., time = amount divided by constant rate of accumulation), they are not on tests. Others should just survey the mathematical developments. They show that the math exists and what the formulae look like.
