Tim Berners-Lee

    Caption: Tim Berners-Lee (1955--).

    The Father.

He invented the World Wide Web at CERN as an information sharing tool for the laboratory.

The primal URL/website, which came online 1991 Aug06, was http://info.cern.ch---which still exists---but it hasn't existed continuously---for some years, I think, it was a dead link.

The first website is simulated at WORLD WIDE WEB (or if that URL is a dead link, sort of at CERN: The birth of the Web):

"The WorldWideWeb (W3) is a wide-area hypermedia[1] information retrieval initiative aiming to give universal access to a large universe of documents."

      You can say that again.

Note the black screen and the green typewriter font being typed out. We thought that was really futuristic back in the late 20th century.

Hey, Tim Berners-Lee was born the same year as Steve Jobs (1955--2011):

An ambition laid against all odds,
a vision that knowledge could be free,
with the shade of Steven Jobs
      in life of Tim Berners-Lee.
