Caption: A muse reading a scroll with an open chest on the floor on an Attic red-figure-pottery lekythos (c. 435--425 BCE) found in Boeotia on the mainland of ancient Greece, Louvre, Paris.

The muse is NOT positively identified and the lekythos is probably unsigned.

It may be Clio, the muse of history.

But maybe it's Urania (AKA Astronomia), muse of astronomy, studying a sky map:

Astronomy is the only science to have a muse---it's shows our standing in the hierarchy---we're top dog.
