Cleopatra

Image 1 Caption: A possible posthumous, maybe imaginative portrait painting of Cleopatra VII (69--30 BCE) of Ptolemaic Egypt from ancient Roman Herculaneum made during the 1st century CE before the destruction of Herculaneum by the Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 CE. Location: National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Naples, Italy.

      My salad days,
When I was green in judgment: cold in blood,
To say as I said then!
---Cleopatra as imagined in Antony and Cleopatra, 1607, Act I, scene 5, near end, William Shakespeare (1564--1616).

    Portrait of Terentius Neo

Image 2 Caption: Portrait of the Terentius Neo and his wife probably from reign of Nero (37--68 CE, reigned 54--68 CE) or the reign of Vespesian (9--79 CE, regined 69--79 CE).

As in The Last Days of Pompeii (1834).

Pompeii and Herculaneum were both destroyed by the Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 CE which happened after Oct17 and maybe Oct24. The long-accepted date of Aug24 has been ruled out. See Wikipedia: Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 CE: Date of the eruption and BBC: Pompeii: Vesuvius eruption may have been later than thought, 2018.
