Caption: "The River Stour Canterbury, Kent, England." (Slightly edited.)
In the Geoffrey Chaucer's (c. 1343--1400) The Canterbury Tales (1387--1400), the pilgrims say they are going to tell 4 stories each, 2 on the way to Canterbury and 2 on the way back. But that's their plan, NOT Chaucer's. There are only 25 tales (see Wikipedia: The Canterbury Tales: Order), NOT 120, and the end of the pilgrimage is the end of the pilgrimage.
