Yggdrasil

Caption: An image from Northern Antiquities (1847), an English translation of the Prose Edda (c.1300--c.1600).

The image is a 19th century attempt to illustrate the Norse cosmology: i.e., mythical cosmology of the Norsemen.

Many pre-spherical-Earth mythical cosmologies may have had a similar structure---a flat Earth (with land and ocean), a dome of the sky (norse version), and an underworld.

Norse cosmology has some optional features: Yggdrasil (the world tree), Joermungandr (the Midgard serpent), and Bifrost (the rainbow bridge).
