2002 Summer Undergraduate Research in Physics

The UNLV Physics Department is now accepting applications to the Research Experience for Undergraduates Program for the summer of 2002. Bright, motivated undergraduate students are invited to apply for the program. The summer program affords the opportunity to participate in the physics research at UNLV, including:

  • Experimental atomic, molecular, and laser physics
  • Experimental condensed matter physics
  • High pressure science

Students must have completed their sophomore or junior year, with at least one year of physics courses. A student who will graduate by the summer of 2002 is not eligible. Students must be U. S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents, majoring in physical sciences or engineering. Physics majors will be given preference. Successful applicants will have good grades, the willingness to work hard, and an interest in science and in research. Previous laboratory experience is helpful but not essential. The program runs for 10 weeks (June 3-August 9). A nationally competitive stipend will be offered.

To apply, send a copy of your transcript, an application, and arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent from faculty members who know you well. There is no application form. Instead, write a one-page letter describing your career goals, your interest in this program, and any relevant work experience and achievements.

The deadline for receipt is March 1, 2002, with offers to be made shortly thereafter. Please include telephone numbers where you can be reached after March 1, 2002. Application materials (except transcripts) can be sent by email or FAX. Have materials sent to:
