High resolution spectroscopy of molecules in gas phase using visible and infra-red lasers

Graduate research work involving electron attachment reactions of halogenated compounds in gas phase

• Measured the high-resolution spectrum of molecular ions in a gaseous discharge source using Velocity Modulation Spectroscopy.
• Devised a highly sensitive spectrometer that uses only a few microwatts of laser power to study molecular ions. This effort demonstrated for the first time use of tunable diode lasers to conduct such experiments. Work published in Review of Scientific Instruments.
• Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art frequency-doubled tunable dye laser, Argon and
• Krypton ion lasers, infra-red FCL laser and tunable diode laser
• Experience with active electrical discharge sources, electron and ion optics, position sensitive detectors, particle multipliers and related high-vacuum techniques
• Extensive experience with vacuum pumps, leak detectors, residual gas analyzers, toxic gas handling equipment
• Designed and constructed analog and digital electronic circuits.
• Developed Software and hardware for computer controlled data acquisition and theoretical modeling of physical processes
