champions_sharron Dear Mr. del Toro:
It was reported on Wikipedia that you had planned in
2007 to make a film version of The Champions. Since you havn't done so, it's possible that you have never found the right screenplay. I have written a script you might wish to consider.

What resonated with me about the titular characters is that they are separated from ordinary real-world society by their supernatural nature and by the fact that they are an eternal triangle, two men and one woman. They also live in the real world which makes them different from conventional superheroes and they live in the 1960s which is now like parallel reality which can be visited imaginatively.

My script is low-key and philosophical. The champions do not save the world---in fact, the philosophical point is that they can't. The script explores their personal and philosophical predicament which is tragic to a degree---but not to the degree of any ordinary human tragedy---like the death of child---and the champions are aware of that too. There is humor because the characters like jokes, but the script is not a comedy.

Most of the film is set in Hong Kong. The script does not specify much of the detail of the setting. I assume the director and art director would decide how to make Hong Kong a vivid world. There are 4 kung fu action scenes. The fight choregrapher should make them dramatic, possible for superhumans, but also not out of keeping with the over scale of the story.

The script is dialogue-driven and probably too short for a feature film. But if you liked the basics of it, it could be made more cinematic.

If you are interested, I could email a pdf of the script. It is not in professional format, but in an edited-for-publication format.

                              Sincerely, David Jeffery
