Directions:  CHAC is one block west of Arizona Charlies, and 2 blocks northwest of the intersection of W. Charleston Blvd. and Decatur Blvd. From Highway 95, take the Decatur exit, go south on Decatur for 4 stoplights, and turn right on Evergreen St.  This is the street between the Arizona Charlie's Casino and their parking lot to the south.  Go west on Evergreen, and at the first stop sign, turn left onto Brush St.  CHAC is the 2nd building on the right.
 
Future Contra / Old-TIme Barn Dances at CHAC: October 20 (only one dance in Oct) - Halloween dance, November 3, 24 (Thanksgiving potluck), December 29 (Winter Fest).   Generally, the last Saturday of the month, PLUS,

Also, there is occassionally Israeli dancing Friday evenings after the service at the new Jewish synagogue, Ner Tamid.  The next one is OCT. 4th.  These events are free, and last for 1 to 1.5 hours.  The temple is located just north of the intersection of Highway 215 and Valle Verde, in Henderson.  After exiting the freeway, go north to the first stop light, and the synagogue is on the left.

Dr. Zakarya Diouf, Diamano Coura West African Dance Company, will present an exhilarating drum and dance workshop, facilitated by Dr. Diouf, born in the African nation of Senegal, who has done extensive research into African music and tribal and ceremonial dancing. He is best known for the Emmy he earned for his part in the musical score of Alex Haley's "Roots."

October 1, Monday, The History of Flamenco Dance, 7 p.m., Clark County Library, Jewel Box Theater

Flamenco, a dance and musical style that originates from Spain's Andalucia region, embodies a complex musical and cultural tradition. Join Margo Torea, of the Sociedad Cultural Hispania, for an overview and demonstration of the many different styles of flamenco dance in this evening program.

October 7, Sunday, World Steps: The Shirley Chen Dancers

Shirley Chen and her dancers present traditional folk dances in authentic Chinese dress. Each unique dance is explained by the performers. World Steps is a monthly dance series featuring various ethnic dances and costumes.

Garage Ma Hall has two acoustic shows

The house concert venue Garage Ma Hall, 6300 West Tropical Parkway in Las Vegas, is participating in "Daniel Pearl World Music Days" September 22 to October 19.

"DPWMD" was created in response to the 2002 kidnapping and murder of "Wall Street Journal" reporter Daniel Pearl by terrorists. His family and friends formed the Daniel Pearl Foundation, whose mission is to promote cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and dialogue.

Performing acoustic sets at the GMH are Tom Begich and Terry Holder on October 2 and "The Folk Collection" on October 19.

Aztec and Mayan music and stories

Listen to the spooky sounds of the "Death Flute," see and hear how a drum can sound like the ocean, howl along with coyote and much more in this program for all ages. Xavier Quijas Yxayotl, a native of Mexico, explores pre-Hispanic music using hand made replicas of ancient instruments and enchants with stories from his childhood. Come to this program expecting playful interaction with song and dance!
