Hi, folks:

REMINDERS:  see below for other concerts and dance events sponsored throughout the Valley, including some that happening tonight!

SPECIAL EVENT:  English Country Dancing with Alan Winston, from Palo Alto CA

June 20 (Wednesday):   The regular Wednesday night Ethnic Express folk dancing is devoted this week to English Country Dancing, with a special guest caller from Palo Alto CA.  His list of dances include many that we have not danced at the Jewel Box theatre, so it will be an evening of exploration for all of us!  All the ECD dances are danced as couples, but it is not necessary to bring a partner.  However, guys, here's a chance to have a dance partner without having to go through the hassle of inviting her - just show up at CHAC at 6:30 pm.  As at the contra dances, all dances are taught and called after the music starts, and no partner is needed (we hope for a gender balance, and any gender can dance any part if there is not a gender balance), and we encourage folks to change partners after each dance.

Caller, choreographer, and community leader, Alan Winston has been dancing since 1978 and calling since 1985.  His dance interests include Regency, Early
American,  Victorian, and modern English Country Dance, ceilidh, contra dance and morris dance.  A co-founder of the Bay Area English Regency Society and
chair of the Bay Area Country Dance Society, he served six years on the Country Dance and Song Society Board and moderates the ECD mailing list.

His clear, cheerful, and witty instruction have served dancers well at a variety of venues including science fiction and romance writer conventions,
weddings, a residential Victorian weekend, Playford Balls on both coasts, Williamsburg, VA, the San Francisco Free Folk Festival, and NEFFA (twice so
far).  Alan regularly calls ECD, Regency, contra, and barn dances in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lives.
All levels of dancers are WELCOME!  Dress is comfortable casual and wear comfy shoes!  Recorded music will be used.

There are now over 150 taiko groups in the U.S. Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko is the only performing taiko troupe based in Southern Nevada.
