Ecos de Chile was
created in 1998 out of the vision of Sonia Yánez. Since then, the group has been
an ambassador of Chilean music and dance throughout the Western United States.
The group’s love of culture and tradition is reflected in every performance,
which includes vocals, colorful costumes and instrumentals.
For World
Steps, Ecos de Chile will perform the national dance “la cueca,” music from the
Andes, Polynesian dances from Eastern Island and colonial
dances.
Director Andrés Vargas arrived in Las Vegas 21 ears ago. In
Chile, he studied classic guitar, theory and solfeggio. He and his brother Juan
researched the less known Chilean folklore and
compiled authentic music and instruments that characterize it. Other musicians
include Jaime Rodríguez (bass, guitar, charango and piano), Luís Valencia
(guitar and bombo), Eladio Asgmad-Sepúlveda (bombo) and Eladio Asgmad-Quezada
(drums). The voices of Nicole Silva, Pamela Bickell and Evelyn Lagos also are
featured.
Dancers include dance director Carlos Silva, who represented
the city of Valparaiso in competition in Northern Chile, where he received
second place, and served as director and dancer in the folklore group of the
Chilean Association, Lautaro. Other dancers include Julia Muñoz, Jaime Merino,
Rosario and Héctor Riquelme, Yerika Ferreira, Manuel Silva, Vivana Concha,
Eladio Asgmad-Sepúlveda, Sandra González, César Rivas and Daniela Riquelme and
José Ignacio Carrasco, both age 6.
