November 13 and 20, and December 11 and 18
(Monday evenings): English Country Dancing
(free; recorded music)
English Country Dancing (ECD) is the "more-refined" cousin
of contra dancing. Think elegeance, grace, propriety, and, of course,
eye-contact and just a little bit of flirting... Sponsored by
University Historical Dance Enthusiasts. The emphasis is on
dances prior to 1700, but some more modern dances are also taught and
called. Want to read more about ECD? go to our website, http://snocd.raincloudpub.com/
Location: Jewel Box Theatre,
Clark County (Flamingo) Library, 1401 E. Flamingo
Ave.
Time: 6:30 to 8:45 pm.
Admission: Free
Info: return e-mail, or
656-9513
Directions: The library is between Maryland
Parkway and Eastern Ave., on the south side of the street. The library
entrance that is close to the Jewel Box theatre is the door closest to the
intersection of Flamingo and Escondido. Inside the door, turn left, go
down a short flight of stairs, and the Jewel Box is the room on your
right.
Future Jewel Box ECD Dances at the Jewel
Box: January 4 & 18, 2007; February 1 & 15.
NOTE CHANGE TO THURSDAY EVENINGS.
Share your Thanksgiving leftovers or try new recipes for
those leftovers, and work off the calories from the previous days of
feasting at our Old Time Barn Dance on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
This has traditionally been a fun dance, with several out-of-town
visitors: our dancers bring their holiday guests, or visiting dancers
bring their LV friends and relatives in LV to our event. We have
a guest caller for the entire evening: Greg McKenzie, from Santa Cruz,
CA. Greg called our August '06 dance, and will give a fun evening to
all. The local band, "112, and Then Some", will
provide snappy fiddlin' music (at a tempo of at least
112). If you have moved here from another dance community, do
come out and enjoy the lively music, the camaraderie, and the laughter, and to
get your dancing fix! We encourage any first-timers to attend the 1/2 hour
lesson that starts at 6:30 pm, as it is designed to give newcomers a basic
primer on what constitutes a contra dance, and help the dance flow more smoothly
throughout the evening.

Arts Center, 800 South Brush Street, Las Vegas, near Arizona
Charlie's. Phone: 229.6211.
