English Country Dancing (ECD) is the = "more-refined"=20 cousin of contra dancing. Think elegeance, grace, propriety, and, of = course,=20 eye-contact and just a little bit of flirting...  Sponsored by = University Historical Dance Enthusiasts. Join us for a lively evening of contra = dancing,=20 with mixers, waltzes, and other dances thrown in for variety.  The = local=20 band, "112, and Then Some", will provide snappy fiddlin' music (at=20 a tempo of at least 112).  If you have moved here = from=20 another dance community, do come out and enjoy the lively music, the=20 camaraderie, and the laughter, and to get your dancing fix!  We = encourage=20 any first-timers to attend the 1/2 hour lesson that starts at 6:30 pm, = as=20 it is designed to give newcomers a basic primer on what constitutes = a=20 contra dance, and help the dance flow more smoothly throughout the=20 evening.

Dances of Univeral = Peace 
  • In Las = Vegas, the=20 Dances of Universal Peace meets = on the first=20 Thursday of the month, and about every other month, on the=20 first Saturday after the first Thursday, in Pahrump.

    Participants perform chant and dance = from a variety=20 of cultures. You do not need to know how to dance and no partner is = required.=20 You will be dancing the path to peace by honoring the sacred = traditions of the=20 world through song and dance. Everyone participates.

    Songs are taught and then sung in the = native=20 language of the cultures they are honoring. The phrases are short and = easy to=20 learn. The dances are done in a circle, using simple folk dance = movements.=20 Wear comfortable clothes.

    A belly dancing class for ages 50 and up meets at the Las Vegas = Senior=20 Center every Friday from 11 a.m. to noon.  The class is taught by = Jasmine=20 Gamal, who has taught dance in the Las Vegas area for 31 years. She = instructs=20 the Golden Tappers dance group and teaches at the A to Z Dance Studio. = She=20 says belly dancing is great exercise, and allows a lot of individual=20 expression.  The cost is $3 per session.   • Gilley's at the Frontier Hotel and = Casino on the=20 Strip:  Lynn Martinez will be teaching line dancing from 4 = to 5pm on=20 Sundays, followed by West Coast Swing Dancing (see below).  =
  • Roadhouse Casino, 2100 N Boulder Hwy = (near Sunset)=20 Henderson.  My erstwile scout says "I have it on good authority = that=20 there are Country Line Dancing lessons on Wednesdays beginning at 6 = pm. =20 There is also swing dance music from 7:30 til 10pm".  =
