The annual meeting of the Southern Nevada Old-Time = Contra=20 Dancers that was held on August 26 resulted in the = introduction of=20 three new members to the Board of Directors:  Diana Gleason, Lilly = Hart,=20 and Marlene Dorval. English Country Dancing (ECD) is the "more-refined" = cousin of=20 contra dancing. Think elegeance, grace, propriety, and, of course, = eye-contact=20 and just a little bit of flirting...  Sponsored by University=20 Historical Dance Enthusiasts. Join us for a lively evening of contra dancing, with = mixers,=20 waltzes, and other dances thrown in for variety.  The=20 local band, "112, and Then Some", will provide snappy fiddlin' = music (at=20 a tempo of at least 112).  If you have moved here = from=20 another dance community, do come out and enjoy the lively music, the=20 camaraderie, and the laughter, and to get your dancing fix!  We = encourage=20 any first-timers to attend the 1/2 hour lesson that starts at 6:30 pm, = as=20 it is designed to give newcomers a basic primer on what constitutes = a=20 contra dance, and help the dance flow more smoothly throughout the=20 evening.

    September=20 30:   The Two Man Band.  = 7:30 PM, Highland Office Center, 2753 South=20 Highland. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased = through=20 the above website.

    Peter Tork of The Monkees, with longtime music=20 collaborator (and Acoustic Routes' favorite) James Lee Stanley, are = touring=20 their Two-Man Band show for the last time. The tour coincides with the = release=20 of the duo's new live CD.  =  It's two old friends (since the = 60's)=20 just playing and singing live.  James Lee Stanley produced Peter Tork's solo = CD, Stranger=20 Things Have Happened.  Peter wanted to do an acoustic tour to support = the=20 release of the CD and he asked James to go with him.  They worked up a couple of = tunes to do=20 together, became ten songs.  The fans asked for a CD of the two of them = doing those=20 songs and presto! In 1996, Two Man Band was = born. In 2001, Peter Tork and James Lee = Stanley=20 collaborated on their second effort as a duo, with "Once = Again.=94

     

    Peter is an accomplished musician who can play an outstanding = number of=20 instruments such as banjo, guitar, bass, piano, drums, organ, keyboards, = and=20 more.
