British Isles Dance Class and Arthurian = Ball, February=20 5th:  

"Say farewell to winter with a rollicking dance revel! Come to the = Barony of=20 Starkhafn on Saturday, February 5, 2005, for the = British Isles=20 Dance Class and Arthurian Ball. Enjoy a full day of dance instruction = and=20 practice,
followed by a delightful evening ball in the enchanted land = of=20 Camelot. Prizes will be awarded for the Best-Dressed Couple and for the = Most=20 Romantic Couple - think Arthur and Guinevere, Tristam and Isolde, even = Merlin=20 and
Morgana. In honor of King Arthur's fair realm, we'll be featuring = dances=20 of the British Isles. Our dance-o-crat, Ealasaid Countess nic Chlurain, = will=20 teach a variety of English and Scottish country dances, as well as dance = revel
favorites like the Calafian Bransle and the Bransle Official. = After a=20 light dinner of soup, stew, bread and vegetables - nothing too heavy = that your=20 stomach will be too full to dance! - the evening's ball will = commence.

The day's schedule:
8:00am - Site opens
9:00am - Dance = instruction=20 begins
12noon - Lunch break; bring a picnic lunch or go = off-site
1:00pm -=20 Dance instruction and practice
5:00pm - Relax with friends over a = light=20 dinner
6:00pm - The Arthurian Ball commences, with dancing until=20 9:00pm
10:00pm - Site closes

Location: the = Elks=20 Lodge, 2939 Van Der Meer Street, in North Las Vegas.

Directions:  From all points south: Take I-15 = northbound to Cheyenne Avenue exit; turn right (east) approx = 0.9 miles=20 on Cheyenne. When you reach the Community College of Southern Nevada = (CCSN),=20 turn right at the light onto Van Der Meer Street. Travel approx 0.3 = miles, and=20 the Elks Lodge will be on your right.

    Tommy = Evvanuel's career=20 spans three decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest = musicians=20 in the world time and time again. A household name in his native = Australia,he=92s=20 garnered tens of thousands of loyal fans on all five continents. Known = as a=20 musician=92s musician,=94 he=92s been described (more than once, and by = some of the=20 biggest names in the industry) as the greatest guitar player alive = today. He is=20 Tommy Emmanuel, C.G.P.  

    Emmanuel=92s unique = style =97 he=20 calls it simply =93fingerstyle=94 =97 is akin to playing a guitar the = way a pianist=20 plays a piano. While Tommy has many imitators, few approach his mastery. = He even=20 has his own annual guitar festivals, =93Tommy Fest,=94 in Newport News, = VA,=20 Louisville, KY and Dortmund, Germany.

    Jazz legend Chet = Atkins was one=20 of the first people who inspired Emmanuel to pick up a guitar.     In his storied = career, the=20 Grammy-nominated Emmanuel has set sales records that have yet to be = broken and=20 performed alongside hundreds of other musical legends including Chet = Atkins,=20 Eric Clapton, Sir George Martin, Hank Marvin and Joe Walsh. Olivia = Newton-John,=20 Al Jarreau and Sheena Easton have also recorded songs written by=20 Emmanuel.

    Interested in autoharps?  The = Miners, in=20 Prescott  are hosting Cathy Britell on Wednesday, February 9 = to do a=20 workshop at 11:00 and a house concert at 2:00 at their home = at 1501=20 Copper Basin Road,  Prescott.  She is an outstanding autoharp=20 player.  In lieu of a fee she is asking for a $10.00 donation to = the=20 American Red Cross for Tsunami Relief.  Any = questions,   Miner can be reached at 928-776-9671. They also have a regular = autoharp group that meets at their house on the first Saturday of the = month at=20 1:00 and would love to have some new folks join.  Beginners are = very=20 welcome.
