From moore@ee.nmt.edu Tue Aug 14 15:34:02 2001 From: Elliott Moore <moore@arctic.nmt.edu> Subject: Final draft HRW syllabus (fwd) Hi, Here is the final draft of the Halliday Resnick & Walker syllabus. The major changes from earlier drafts are: Newton's laws chapters are stretched to two weeks from one, Heat, Thermo, perfect gas are compressed to one week from two. Reasons for changes: Barry Sabol has looked at the 121 labs, & thinks we will have fewer sequencing problems if we stretch it a bit early. This sequence has no problems; the first draft meant a new lab had to be created and an older lab omitted. The Newton's Laws chapters were to be taught in the week with the Labor Day holiday. Some sections of 121 would meet only twice that week, pretty stiff for teaching all of Newton's Laws and how to apply them. The heat, thermo, perfect gas material is usually familiar to most 121 students - either from high school physics or chemistry here at Tech. On balance, it seems easier to teach those materials together in one week than to do all of Newton's laws & applications in half a week. No changes are yet proposed for 122. Without further ado, here is the altered schedule: Syllabus: Halliday, Resnick & Walker Ed. 6, draft of 05/18/2001 121-2001 Week Dates Chaps.
