1) What should I do if a student notifies me they tested positive?

which apparently supercedes any earlier guidance.
But it is NOT clear if you can report the name of student to chair and dean without
consent from the student.
So don't report the name to the chair and dean. If they have a right to know, they will ask.)

3) I want to notify my students and colleagues about a confirmed case. What can I do?
When you learn about a confirmed case in your class, department,
school, or college, you may wish to notify others out of caution.
(Should you or not wish to warn? It depends a bit on the
case, but if there was any chance the student was infectious
during a lab period, a warning should be given to the
other students. But do NOT warn without consultation as said just below.)

You may expose protected health information of the individual(s) involved.

If you do NOT get consultation in a timely fashion
and feel you do NOT want a lab class to meet until you do,
just cancel the lab period for unspecified administrative reasons.)
You also may violate the federal Clery Act, resulting in a fine up
to $58,328 per violation. Any resulting fine will be paid
by the faculty member's department.
Reach out to Ashleigh Angell, the Clery Compliance Officer in
University Police Services, and Cindy Brown, Senior Director
of Public Affairs, prior to taking any action. Ashleigh
and Cindy will provide explicit guidance and communication
templates specific to the situation, and loop in other resources as necessary.
Only send the messaging provided by Ashleigh and Cindy to avoid violating the Clery Act.
4) Remember that classrooms and workplaces that are following preventive measures,
including wearing face coverings and social distancing,
have a low risk of transmission.
5) My student tested positive. Why didn't I get a call from contact tracers?
Contact tracers investigate cases, gather information and reach out only to
close contacts --- people who are within six feet for more than 15 minutes
or more with an individual with COVID-19. Contact tracers identify where
the individual has been, who they have been in contact with and if
they have adhered to the university's mandate for social distancing
and face coverings. If these preventive measures are in place in
classrooms and a workplace, the risk of transmission is low.
