Geoffrey Chaucer

Lynette Olson

A historian of the early Middle Ages of Europe which I like to refer to as the Dark Ages. Interestingly, she was another youthful devotee of Rosemary Sutcliff.

A up-to-date, easy-going, authoritative read. There is a tendency to regard every period in her period as crucial, but I suppose they are. There are some typos: e.g., a reference to p. 000 on p. 189. Some prose glitches too. Another swoosh by the editor would have helped.
