SN 1998bw Ic_hyp in ESO 184-G82 (SBbc)
OBJ: SN 1998bw Ic_hyp in ESO 184-G82 (SBbc)
according to Leda.
DISCOVERY: 1998may01 by \citet{galama1998}
MAX: 1998may10 UT (JD 2450943.8) in B from \citet{patat2001}.
See the US Navy Observatory Julian Date Converter.
This day of the year 130.
DATE of Explosion: This was coincident with GRB 980425, and the assumed explosion was thus 1998apr25.
This day of the year 115.
SUPERNOVA of the YEAR: M = 75.
HEADER: D. J. Jeffery (2006jan01).

REP: F_lambda (cgs-A) vs. lambda (ang)
COR: NOT deredshifted (z=.0085\pm.0002 [Galama etal; Iwamoto etal] or
heliocentric velocity 2550\pm60 km/s.
Using H_0=65, this is 39\pm1 Mpc away [Iwamoto etal]).
But \citet{patat2001} give 2532 km/s from narrow line observations.
NOT checked against photometry and so absolute calibration may be off.
NOT dereddened ???? Iwamoto et al assumed 0. total reddening
and since no other corrections have been done, I assume
no dereddening either.
But Galama etal. from the Schlegel etal maps say
A_V_foreground=.20.
My evaluation from the Schlegel etal maps give
E(B-V)_foreground=.05853 which for R=3.1 is A_V_forground=.1814.
So who is right. Me, I'd say. But they are more expert.
Leda doesn't give a heliocentric velocity and gives foreground E(B-V)=.25/4=.0625

OBS: Not clear, but reported in \citet{patat2001}.
Date: 199 () with 2005may10 (JD 2450943.8) for B maximum gives:
day = - 943.8 = (See JD in FITS information below).
