Big Sur, California

Sites

  1. Big Sur Lodge This lodge is on the Pfeiffer State Park.
  2. The Terror (1963) This weak horror film starring Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson had some scenes filmed at Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur. The scenes may have been directed by Francis Ford Coppola and I suppose it is possible that that strangest of horsemen, Jack Nicholson, was actually on the beach. Look for the famous arch.

The photographic images were all taken by ``Linlou'' (and are her copyright), 2005jul24--28, during our Big Sur trip.

She went to the Spa instead of Big Sur.

  3. ../../astro/bigsur/big_sur_pfeiffer_beach_001.jpg Picture of Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur. This is a state or federal park beach. It is easily accessible only by the narrow Sycamore Canyon Road. You have to know the beach is there to find. Obviously this is intentional to keep people away who don't know it's there or how tricky it is to drive down there. Jack Nicholson may once have ridden a horse on this beach dressed up as a Napoleonic officer.

  7. ../../astro/bigsur/big_sur_pfeiffer_beach_005.jpg Picture of Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur. This image shows the famous face on the rock. The face (upper right above the arch) is believed to have been made by the same aliens who created the face on Mars (e.g., Erich van Daeniken, Chariots of the Gods; National Enquirer). The arch itself is a portal to another dimension as proven in The Terror (1963).

  8. ../../astro/bigsur/big_sur_point_lobos_001.jpg Picture of a Monterey cypress on Point Lobos, Big Sur. Point Lobos is a peninsula state park where one of the only two Monterey cypress groves in the world can be found. It is also a site for seeing sealions, seals, birds, and, if you are lucky, otters and whales. Those darn otters are elusive.
