PROJECT #1 ------------ This project involves building disk galaxies, evolving them in isolation, assessing their evolutionary stability, and repeating these steps under a wide variety of disk-galaxy parameters to explore their stability, and how it depends on the disk model parameters (and, ideally, how this relates to observed disk structure). The following is a general outline of the steps required to start this project. 1. Make the initial galaxy models using MakeDiskGalaxy or MakeHubbleType, see the associated README files for details about compiling these codes and running them to generate a disk galaxy initial condition file. 2. Simulate the evolution of this system using Gadget. See the Gadget.REAME file for details about compiling Gadget, and then the directory Sa for an example of how to run Gadget to evolve the previously generated initial conditions. 3. Use IDL to visualize these galaxies and assess the structure of each galaxy. Does it form a bar? Does it stay smooth? How does its structure depend upon the parameters used as input to the building program?
