This summer I worked under Dr. Linda Sapochak- an organic chemist- on her project to create a red fluorescent molecule for use in Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLED). My participation in this project involved studying the photoluminecsent properties of several different molecules, some dyes and some metal quinolates. Details about OLEDs can be found at Dr. Sapochak's web site. Much of my activity this summer was to create a procedure for the Fluorimeter because it was a new instrument in the lab, as well as trying to catch up on all of the organic chemistry I haven't taken.
