Energy Flow Diagrams
The figure below shows the flow of energy in Nevada. On the left are the primary sources of energy and their destinations. Most of the energy goes to generate electricity with the exception of petroleum that mostly goes to tranpsortation. Not all on the energy used to generate electricity produces actual electricity, some ends up as heat and ends up under rejected energy on the right of the diagram. The generated electricity ends up being used in four sectors; residential, commercial, transportation and industrial.
The goal of the calculator is reduce to zero the top three current sources of energy
(natural gas, petroleum and coal). This will mean increasing renewables substantially by 2050.
